Throughout this Marrakech to Sahara dunes tour (5 days), you’ll be enjoying the breathtaking landscapes of southern Morocco, including beautiful Berber buildings, dramatic gorges, lush valleys, historic kasbahs, oases, and endless dunes. Experience the magic of the desert by riding camels across the dunes to watch a mesmerizing sunset. You’ll also have the chance to learn about the Berber way of life. This unforgettable journey will leave you with lasting memories of the Merzouga desert and the Erg Chebbi dunes experience.
On the first day of our 5 days desert tour from marrakech to Merzouga, we will begin by crossing the Atlas Mountains, passing through the Tizi n’Tichka pass. Along the way, we’ll stop to take photos and enjoy the stunning panoramic views. We will also visit an argan oil cooperative to learn about the extraction process and its various uses.
Next, we will explore the fortified city of Ait Ben Haddou and its famous kasbah, which has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This iconic location has been featured in several films, such as Gladiator, The Jewel of the Nile, and the TV series Game of Thrones. After lunch in Ait Ben Haddou, we will continue our journey to Ouarzazate, known as the gateway to the desert.
Our journey will then take us through the Valley of Roses, passing the impressive palm groves of Skoura and Boumalne.
We will set off for Merzouga in the morning, crossing the stunning Todra Gorges along the way. We’ll stop for lunch before continuing our journey towards the desert. Upon reaching the impressive dunes of Merzouga, we’ll enjoy a welcoming tea, where you’ll begin to experience the warm hospitality of the desert people.
Once we arrive at the hotel, located at the edge of the desert, we will leave our luggage behind and only take what’s necessary for our night in the desert. We will meet our camels, which will take us into the dunes to the desert camp. There, we’ll enjoy a breathtaking sunset, followed by a traditional dinner accompanied by typical desert music. We’ll spend the third night of our 5 days desert tour from marrakech in this magical desert camp.
It’s essential to wake up early to witness the stunning sunrise in the heart of the desert. After enjoying some free time for breakfast, we’ll return to Merzouga on camelback, where your driver will be waiting for you. The rest of the day will be dedicated to exploring the Merzouga region, which is filled with incredible sights, from vast dunes and wild lakes to ancient mines, fossilized areas, and oases perfect for a variety of outdoor activities.
Our journey begins with a visit to an old eyeliner mine, followed by a visit to the nomads in their hand-woven tents, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about their lifestyle over a glass of traditional Berber tea. Next, we’ll head to the village of Khamlia, where you can enjoy the music and dance of the Gnawa people, originally from countries south of the Sahara, such as Mali, Sudan, and Niger.
After a break for lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll take a stroll through a lush palm grove. We’ll then drive a few kilometers to the wild oasis of Hassi Labiad. Afterward, we’ll return for dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel or riad.
We will wake up early to witness the sunrise, then begin the fourth day of our Best Morocco Sahara tours. We will head back to Ouarzazate, passing through the landscapes of the Draa Valley. Continuing our journey, we will cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains to reach Ouarzazate.
We will depart for a visit to the famous Kasbah Taourirt and the studios that have made Ouarzazate renowned. After exploring these remarkable sites, we will drive back to Marrakech, crossing the scenic landscapes of the High Atlas Mountains.
Along the way, we will make several stops, including a visit to Kasbah Telouet, one of the oldest kasbahs in the High Atlas. After touring this ancient kasbah, we will continue our journey via the Tizi n’Tichka pass, with a stop for lunch before reaching the red city. After a delicious local lunch, we will resume our drive to Marrakech, marking the end of our Marrakech to Sahara dunes tour (5 days).
